There is no Jamaican over the
age of 30 who did not grow up on Leandro cartoons. Every day for
roughly half a century, in Jamaica's oldest newspaper, two
simple characters said in two sentences all we needed to know
about politics, economics, world events and life in Jamaica!
Mr Reggie Webb Harris has,
with the kind permission of "The Gleaner", collected over
100 of Leandro's best from 1961 to 1986 covering Foreign
Relations, Gender Relations and Politics; in particular two
memorable Prime Ministers, Michael Manley and Edward Seaga.
If you are a Jamaican
suffering from nostalgia then surely you would want to own this
wonderful collection from the Patriarch of Jamaican cartoonists.
If you are not Jamaican but want a short tongue-in-cheek lesson
in Jamaica's modern history, you must have one of these
wonderful volumes. After reading through it for the first time
you will know all you need to about the way we see the world and
ourselves and you would have had a chuckle or two along the way.
The book is 11"x8.5" presented
in soft-cover format and is black and white, as were Leandro's
cartoons.
