ALLSPICE
"Jamaica Pepper" Eugenia Pimenta: Native Tree
the berries of which are a popular spice which tastes like a
combination of several other spices.
Oxford English Dictionary
Just as the allspice berry tastes like a combination of other
spices; our magazine will strive to give you a variety of
different flavours which combine to make a finished
product which is uniquely Jamaican.
This magazine is the
brainchild of a Jamaican who has lived in Kingston all her
life. She has had the opportunity to travel and read
extensively and has been impressed by the fact that Jamaica,
despite it's relatively small size, is known all over the
world.
Somewhere along the way
it occurred to her that we are known for, more than everything
else, Reggae music and beautiful beaches. Shouldn't she, in
her own small way, try to show the other facets of Jamaica?
I've always been
interested in history and my daughter calls me a Dictionary
of Trivia. So I've put together this magazine. I've tried to
verify all the information using newspaper articles and by
searching the Jamaica Information Service, the National
Library of Jamaica, The Jamaica National Heritage Trust and
other local bodies as well as international sources such as
Britannica. If I've made any mistakes along the way,
please e-mail me with corrections citing your source.
Hope you enjoy reading
Jamaica Allspice as much as I enjoy putting it together!
